Dog Training Classes

Dog Training in Northwood Class - 1We run fun and interactive dog training obedience classes every Friday evening throughout the year. Our dog training classes are kept small and each class lasts about 40 minutes.

Puppy Foundation (7 week course)
The aim is to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for education and training. The 40 minute training sessions will provide you with lots of techniques that you can employ both at home and when out and about with your dog. We recognise everyone learns differently, both human and canine, and therefore we run  classes with both group and individual activities to cater for all learning styles. Below are activities and guidance that are included on this course:

1.      Responsibility and CareOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
2.      Cleanliness and Identification
3.      Attentive Response To Name
4.      Play with Puppy
5.      Socialising
6.      Handling and Inspecting To Maintain Health
7.      Puppy Recall
8.      Basic Puppy Positions
9.      Walking in a Controlled Manner
10.    Stay for 10 Seconds
11.    Take Article Away
12.    Good Manners

At the end of the 7 weeks puppies who have successfully passed the exercises will receive a rosette and certificate.  We use a 40 minute lesson to maximise learning and prevent fatigue for both puppies and owners.

Dog Training Course - Bronze

Bronze Good Citizen – course length dependent on ability of dogs and owners (£25 for 7 weeks or £4 per session)
This is a continuation of the Puppy Foundation and the aim of this course is to enhance skills previously learnt including loose lead walking, so your dog will walk and behave in a controlled manner; reliable recall and stable stay or wait on command. At the end of the course a test of all the exercises learnt over the course is carried out by an external examiner.  Dogs who successfully pass the test will receive a rosette and certificate. Dogs not quite ready to take the test at the end of the course can repeat the course and take the test at the next availability   http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/21392/gcdsbronze.pdf

Dog Training Course - Silver

Silver Good Citizen – course length dependent on ability of dogs and owners (£25 for 7 weeks or £4 per session)

The Silver test is a continuation of the Bronze and a natural progression of practical dog training skills. It introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control exercises.  These are important in every day situations.  As with the Bronze an external assessor attends to test the dogs.  Dogs who successfully pass the test will receive a rosette and certificate.  http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/21404/gcdssilver.pdf

Dog Training Course - Gold
Gold Good Citizen – course length dependent on ability of dogs and owners (£25 for 7 weeks or £4 per session)

The Gold Award is the highest level of achievement in the Good Citizen Scheme. It builds upon the skills learnt in the Silver and develops more advanced training skills of the dog and handler. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/21396/gcdsgold.pdf
Dog Training in Northwood Class - 2
As in the Silver and Bronze an external assessor is brought in to judge the dogs at this level.

Silver and Gold Good Citizen tests are held when we have enough dogs that have reached the required standard.
